Weekly News Round-Up

Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer

It doesn't really need any introduction, does it?

Terminator: Genisys trailer

Despite the ridiculous title spelling (seriously, I'm gonna be getting that wrong for the rest of time,) this actually looks like a good bit of fun, and a return to the Terminator movies of days past. It also features everyone's favourite Khaleesi!

Mad Max: Fury Road trailer

I think this might just be the most promising reboot/sequel trailer so far... It looks like a return to the 80's fun of yore, with wacky costumes, extreme stunts and special effects and whole bunch of stylised, good, old-fashioned fun. I kinda can't wait.

Could Rebel Wilson be our first female Ghostbuster?

It looks like Paul Feig's Ghostbusters sequel could already be steaming ahead into casting talks.
When asked about Ghostbusters on The Today Show, the hilarious actress said;
 "Look, I have had a meeting, but who knows? They have to look at the script when it's finished. I would even do that without the money truck. I'd do that for free. I probably shouldn't say that live on TV."

I love the idea of Rebel being involved. She's hilarious, and her deadpan sense of humour could work brilliantly within a team.

Krysten Ritter cast as Jessica Jones in Marvel's upcoming Netflix series

Krysten Ritter, mostly known for her role as Jane in Breaking Bad, is officially Marvel's Jessica Jones! I'm not overly familiar with the character of Jessica Jones, but I've been told Ritter perfectly fits her personality, and the actress certainly has sass in spades!

For those of you also out of the loop in regards to Jessica Jones, she's described as being 'cynical, sardonic and tough-as-nails, but innately cool and sexy.' She's a superhero who suffers PTSD and that leads to her giving up the superhero life to open up her own detective agency, where she helps people and assists other superheroes. It's one of four Marvel Netflix series, along with Daredevil, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, which will eventually lead into The Defenders. They're slated to start in 2015.

Ryan Reynolds officially signs on to Deadpool

In a piece of casting news that shocks no-one, Ryan Reynolds is officially Fox's Deadpool! Huzzah!

Benedict Cumberbatch is Marvel's Doctor Strange

In another piece of casting news that also doesn't shock anyone, Benedict Cumberbatch is officially Marvel's Doctor Strange! He's a fan favourite so it's no surprise that he's won the role.
Marvel's press release is as follows;

'Benedict Cumberbatch has entered the world of the mystic arts.
The actor will start in Marvel's 'Doctor Strange', scheduled to hit theatres November 4, 2016. The film, directed by Scott Derrickson with Jon Spaihts writing the screenplay, will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.'

DC casts their Suicide Squad

It looks like some of those casting rumours were true!

Jared Leto will be playing the Joker, Will Smith will be playing Deadshot, Tom Hardy will be playing Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie will be playing Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney will be playing Boomerang and Cara Delevingne will be playing Enchantress.
They're still looking to cast Amanda Waller, with Oprah Winfrey being WB's first choice for the part... Really!?!
Apparently the studio is calling the project the Oceans Eleven on comic book movies. Suicide Squad hits cinemas on August 5th, 2016.

AMC orders pilot for Seth Rogen's Preacher TV series

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's TV series adaptation of Preacher has just had a pilot episode ordered by AMC.
Rogen and Goldberg released the following statement;
'Preacher has been our favourite comic since it first came out. Garth Ennis is one of our idols and it's an incredible honor to be working on this. We promise we won't make too many dick jokes and ruin it.'
The pilot will go into production in summer 2015 and will most likely air in 2016.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt offers update on Sandman movie

During a recent Reddit AMA, JGL himself gave us a little update on his Sandman adaptation... And it sounds promising!

'Been doing a lot of work with David Goyer and Jack Thorne working on the screenplay. We've been doing our meetings at the DC office which is a frickin rad place to work. Also just had a great conversation last week with David and Mr Gaiman. Neil has been extremely big hearted with me, and he's the one I want to please most.'
In a separate interview with Deadline, writer David Goyer revealed that the first draft of the screenplay had already been turned into Warner Bros.
'I hesitate to definitively say when it might go before the cameras, but the one thing different between other iterations and ours is that Neil Gaiman has been in the room with us and is a vital part of the team. We have a draft Warners is very happy with and we're moving forward, knock on wood.'

2014 Movie Trailer Mash-Up

I love a good yearly film celebration, and these kinds of videos always make me smile and occasionally give me goosebumps. This one is particularly good, and I'm beyond chuffed that they included the unbelievable Snowpiercer. Enjoy!
