Weekly News Round-Up
Fantastic Four movie origin will differ
The upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, directed by Josh Trank, is done filming and is slated for release next June. Surprisingly little has leaked regarding plot details or even costumes, but Schmoes Know has some details on the film's plot.
Firstly, Sue Storm is adopted. Next, the origin story will be a little different to the comic books. Instead of the mission in outer space, the group will gain their powers after a lab experiment, in which they create a portal to another dimension, goes wrong. The powers are gained from their exposure, which is more like the team's origin in the Ultimate Universe. Screenwriter Simon Kinberg has previously stated that the film will be more scientifically grounded that past iterations and more like the Ultimate storyline.
Also, according to Schmoes Knows, the movie will be VERY character driven. Kinberg has called the movie a coming of age story, absolutely perfect for director Trank (previously known for Chronicle.)
Fantastic Four hits cinemas in June 2015.
Guardians Of The Galaxy screenwriter, Nicole Perlman, to pen Gamora comic series
(Yes!)
Bleeding Cool reports that Marvel will be putting out a Gamora comic book, with the film's co-writer, Nicole Perlman, set to work on it. It will be the fifth GOTG title to hit the shelves, with Guardians 3000, Legendary Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon and the ongoing main Guardians Of The Galaxy series. The source reports that Perlman was the one who first began developing Guardians as a cinematic properly and 'now she's writing one of the comics that first inspired her.' Expect an official statement regarding release after New York Comic Con.
I personally cannot WAIT for this! I'm all for more female-fronted comic books being released, especially about kick-ass ladies such as Gamora.
Avengers 3 to be split into two movies?
Rumour has it that the eagerly anticipated Avengers 3 will be split into two movies! As much as I'd like a four or five hour epic, it does absolutely make sense to split it. We'll have to wait and see!
Clerks III has financing... At last!
Director Kevin Smith has revealed that he's finally secured financing for Clerks III, 8 years after Clerks II's release. He gave an update on his Hollywood Babble-On podcast, explaining that his box-office bomb Tusk helped to pave the way for Clerks III.
"Tusk was the absolute bridge to Clerks III. Because of Tusk, I got my financing for Clerks III. A year and change ago, I was desperately trying to get Clerks III made for the 20th anniversary... I must have reeked of (desperation), because I couldn't f***ing find money and s**t. But it was Tusk, with people going 'Holy f***k, what else do you have?' I was like, Clerks III! and they're like, 'Done!' Everybody that's like, 'He failed, he failed!' I'm like, 'Thank you, I failed into Clerks III!'"
Smith has already completed the script for Clerks III and is now in the process of making his comic book action-adventure film, Yoga Hosers, which will star himself, Johnny Depp and their daughters.
Despite rumours that Joaquin Phoenix would take on the roll, This Is Infamous are reporting otherwise. They claim Hawke had actually been offered and accepted the part.
"Ethan Hawke is their new guy, having offered him the role on Friday. I hear Hawke accepted the job over the weekend, and things have quickly progressed into contract talks, with a six-picture deal being what Marvel is hoping to lock him into."
While it's still rumour, it certainly makes sense. Hawke has previously worked with Strange director Scott Derrickson on Sinister. He also definitely looks the part and is around the right age for the character. After Phoenix's reported qualms about signing in to such a long deal, this is certainly something I'd be happy with, especially considering how quickly he is reported to have accepted the role.
Doctor Strange is schedules to start shooting next year and will be looking at a summer 2016 release.
