Weekly News Round-Up
James Earl Jones to reprise role in Star Wars: Rebels
You read that correctly, James Earl Jones is reprising his role as Darth Vader in Star Wars: Rebels! He'll be featuring in the ABC-aired episode of Star Wars Rebels: Spark Of Rebellion on October 26th. How awesome is that!?!
Labyrinth sequel in the words at the Jim Henson Company
Amongst a recent report regarding Billy Crystal joining a Henson movie, Which Witch?, came an interesting tidbit about a Labyrinth sequel. At the end of the article, they list several movies they are currently working on, including Fraggle Rock, a Dark Crystal sequel and a Labyrinth sequel. This is the first time I can recall hearing about a Labyrinth sequel, although the Dark Crystal one seems to have been in development hell for some time. Lets hope the Labyrinth sequel comes to be, especially if it'll bring the return of Ludo and friends!
Adventure Time 'Gritty Reboot' Video
Check out Gritty Reboots' take on Adventure Time below! Highly entertaining and well worth a watch!
Lego Batman gets a spin-off!
The animation supervisor on The LEGO Movie, Chris McKay, was set to direct the sequel, which has now been pushed back, in favour of fast-tracking the LEGO Batman spin-off movie! He'll be directing the feature and it's being written by Seth Grahame-Smith (known for the novel, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and the screenplay for Tim Burton's Dark Shadows... Uh oh!)
Will Arnett is set to reprise his role as the voice of Bats, with The LEGO Movie's directors/writers, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The LEGO Batman movie is set for a 2017 release, which means we won't see a direct sequel to The LEGO Movie until after that. The studio is also developing Ninjago for a September 23rd, 2016 release. Yay, LEGO!
Guardians Of The Galaxy animated series test footage
Marvel announced at New York Comic Con that they've started production on an animated Guardians Of The Galaxy series, coming to Disney XD in 2015.
Check out the trailer below.
I was a fan of the animation, right up until the point where you see Rocket come out of silhouette. I don't like the facial animation of either Rocket or Star Lord and I think Star Lord in particular looks cheap and tacky. I'm hoping this is going to be made up for by fantastic stories, but I'm not holding out much hope. It seems DC really have their animation down and next to shows like Young Justice, this just looks lacking.
First photos of Marvel's Daredevil TV series
We have our first look at the upcoming Daredevil series! This is the same kinda costume we saw in the recent concept art from Joe Quesada and I'm told its very similar to Frank Miller's run on the comic. I'm sure we'll see him don the iconic red outfit in future too!
The second photo gives us a look at Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock in his civvies too.
Will the Russo Brothers direct Avengers 3? (I sure hope so!)
Joe and Anthony Russo, (Captain America: The Winter Soldier,) are currently working on Captain America 3. If Joss Whedon decides not to come back to direct Avengers 3 and 4, the Russo Brothers may be willing to replace him... Something I would be MORE than happy about.
Badass Digest says, "How closely will Captain America 3 tie in with Avengers 3? I've been told that the Russo Brothers are in talks to direct Avengers 3 and possibly 4. Sources tell me that they're the favourites of Marvel right now and that they are the guys Kevin Feige wants to pick up the mantle from Joss Whedon."
I'd be absolutely behind this idea, I think their work on Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the best Marvel work yet, alongside Guardians Of The Galaxy. I would love to see them tackle everything Marvel, and Avengers 3 and 4 would potentially be incredible in their more than capable hands.
As a side note, Robert Downey Jr. is in final negotiations for a role in Captain America 3, which is rumoured to set off some story aspects related to the infamous Civil War storyline.
Jurassic World teaser poster released
Director Colin Trevorrow released the first official poster for Jurassic World. There's been no official plot synopsis yet, but its set to take place 22 years after the events of the original Jurassic Park. It'll feature Chris Pratt, amongst others and is set for a June 2015 release. I'm itching for a trailer!
Marvel hint at more Civil War comics
Marvel has revealed the following Adi Granov illustration teasing the return of Civil War for 2015. Could this have something to do with the movie universe hints too?
DC release a myriad of Justice League and movie news
News has broken online that Zack Snyder (*SIGH*) will be directing two Justice League movies - one story cut into two parts. Justice League Part One will be released in 2017, with Justice League Part Two following in 2019.
The following details have also been announced regarding DC's movie line up;
"First DC movie after Batman vs Superman will be Suicide Squad."
"Wonder Woman movie coming in 2017!"
"2nd DC movie in 2017: Justice League"
"2018 DC Movies: The Flash starring Ezra Miller and Aquaman starring Jason Momoa."
"2019 DC Movies: Shazam (with Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam) and Justice League 2."
"Other DC movies in the works: Cyborg, a Green Lantern reboot, and new stand-alone Superman and Batman movies."
This is just about all the details they've released.
I'm super excited for Ezra Miller to take the role of The Flash - he's a fantastic actor, particularly in Stephen Chbosky's The Perks Of Being A Wallflower. I think he'll be perfect! It's really the first piece of casting news I've agreed with and I appear to be in the minority. I'm hoping people might research some of his performances now and realise how brilliant he is!
My greatest fear for the DCMU is how they tackle Wonder Woman. We've yet to see a female-fronted superhero movie and it's a delicate subject to tackle - as long as it's done well and respectfully, this could mean HUGE things for the genre. However, if they fail miserably, it could also mean terrible things for the genre and women in comics in general. We'll have to wait and see.
On a more positive note, I am dead set on a bit of my own personal casting for the role of Cyborg.
I will be deeply hurt if they don't cast Brooklyn Nine Nine's Terry Crews. He's absolutely perfect for the role, in both appearance, stature and acting ability. He has that Cyborg humour and I truly hope he's cast. I would probably cry little DC-logo shaped tears if they did. Here's some Terry Crews for you to enjoy (and subsequently agree with me about.)
