Comic Pick Of The Week - Copperhead #1 and Wild's End #1
Okay so I'm totally cheating and picking two this week! The reason? They're both SO brilliant and SO different that I couldn't just choose one! Copperhead #1 comes from writer Jay Faerber and artist Scott Godlewski and tells the tale of space cop Clara Bronson as she takes her new position as sheriff of Copperhead. The town contains some nasty hillbillies and a lot of dusty wasteland, not exactly an ideal job... Could Clara and her son be running from something? Godlewski's artwork perfectly compliments the harsh wasteland and intriguing characters and features one of the best colour palettes I've seen used in a sci-fi book.
Wild's End #1 is bought to us by the sterling team of Dan Abnett and I.N.J Culbard. An HG Wells-inspired tale, taking place in a quaint, sleepy village populated by anthropomorphic animals. When the local drunk (fox!) appears at the local pub to regale tails of an alien invasion, a team of three of the town's folk (including a mysterious war veteran,) go to check it out and make a startling discovery... I can't WAIT for the rest of this tale to unfold. I cannot do its brilliance justice in mere words. It's easily one of the best books I've read in a long time. Culbard's artwork is a true joy to behold and matches the storytelling absolutely perfectly. I'd love to see this as an animated short! Strongly recommend!
Merchandise Pick Of The Week -
Guardians Of The Galaxy Rocket Raccoon
and Star Lord Bobble Heads
You know when you see a thing and you just NEED it!? These are two of those things. Accurate, fantastic detail and a great paint job, these Bobble Heads also feature a weighted base, meaning they don't tip over or fall! I already have a Star Lord bobbling away in the back of my car, which is extra hilarious when I'm listening to Awesome Mix Vol. 1 (which is all the time.)
